Divorce in Singapore 2024

Effective from July 1, 2024, this new law allows married couples to file for divorce by citing mutual agreement as the reason for the breakdown of their marriage. Both parties must agree that their marriage has irretrievably broken down to use this ground.

The introduction of DMA aims to make the divorce process less adversarial and more straightforward, potentially reducing the emotional and financial costs associated with contested divorces.
